Mr. Antawan "Twan" Derell Strickland, age 39, of Statesboro, passed away Thursday, November 30, 2023, at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro.
"Twan" as he was affectionately known was born July 9, 1984, in Statesboro, GA to his parents, Catherine Shipman Burgess and James Paul Strickland, Jr. He received his education in the Bulloch County School System and was a graduate of Statesboro High School class of 2002. He was self-employed as a landscaper. He enjoyed sports, particularly football and college basketball with his favorite teams being The Indianapolis Colts and Duke University in NCAA Division I College Basketball.
Antawan was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, the late Mary Lee Sue Shipmon, paternal grandparents, the late Mary Strickland and the late James Paul Strickland, Jr., and an uncle, the late Henry Shipmon.
Antawan leaves to cherish his memories two sons, Marquarius Antawan Trayvon Hagins, and Antawan Derrell Strickland, Jr.; his loving mother, Catherine "Cat" (Virgil) Burgess and his loving father, James Paul (Mary) Strickland, Jr., all of Statesboro, GA; three sisters, Sylina (Anthony) Strickland Holmes of North Augusta, SC; Lauren (Robert) Littles of Statesboro, GA; and Sabrina Burgess of Portal, GA; four brothers, Renard Demico Shipmon of Decatur, GA; James Paul Strickland, III, Nicholas Dewayne Burgess, both of Statesboro, GA; and Brandon C. Strickland of Augusta, GA; maternal grandfather, Willie Henry (Jewel) Shipmon of Statesboro, GA; he is also survived by his aunts, Patricia Ann (Cameron) Prince, Mary Shipmon and Charlene (Willie) Key all of Statesboro, GA; Brenda (Brian) Riley of Stone Crest, GA; and KaTrina (David) Lockett of Statesboro, GA; uncles, Robert (Tyronnda) Shipmon of Brooklet, GA; and Tony Shipmon of Statesboro, GA; and a special friend & homeboy, Omar Thomas of Statesboro, GA.
The Public viewing for Antawan Derell Strickland will be held Friday, December 8, 2023, from Noon until 6:00 P.M. The family will be receiving guests for the family visitation from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. in the Joanna M. Fields visitation room at the Matthew H. Lovett & Son's Funeral Home.
Funeral Services for Mr. Strickland will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, December 9, 2023, at the Agape Worship Center with Rev. Mattie Baldwin Harris, Presiding and Pastor Donald Chavers, Jr., Officiating.
Interment will follow at Eastside Cemetery on Northside Drive, Statesboro, GA.
