Chico Alou Lanier

On March 21, 2024, the world lost a remarkable son, father, brother, and friend with the unexpected passing of Chico Alou Lanier at East Georgia Regional Medical Center. Born in Statesboro, GA on August 13, 1966, Chico's light touched many lives and his presence will be deeply missed.

Chico was a proud 1984 Graduate of Statesboro High School and throughout his life, he held a deep passion for football, especially cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs. His love for the sport brought joy to those around him and connected him with fellow fans.

Chico leaves behind a loving legacy cherished by his surviving family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Erika Lanier of Statesboro, GA. His memory will also be carried on by his children: Antonio (Audria) Williams, Damien (Khadijah) Joyce, Caleb A. Lanier, Asher Smith, "Lil" Kenny Chavers, Marquis (Naima) Smith, Gino "Boota" Pharms, and Joshua Davis all of Statesboro, GA; Tiara (Brandon) Lanier and Oterio "Man" Beal both of Metter, GA.

In honoring his memory as well are his siblings: Janice (Tony) Natson, Je'neen Lanier, Tony (Tawanda) Irvin, and Raynard Lanier all of Statesboro, GA; Sharon Melvin of Brooklet, GA; Tyron (Cora) Lanier of Waynesboro, GA; Whitney Smith and Mekesha (Gavin) Robinson of Metter, GA; Iesha R. Gaffney of Vidalia, GA; Almisha Stewart of NC; Jan "Rod" (Franshon) Lanier of King of Prussia, PA; Alfabian (Lois) Brack of Locust Grove, GA.

Chico was predeceased by his mother Gloria Jean Hagins Lanier and father Jan Lanier. Their memories will forever live on alongside their son, Chico.
Chico's spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him. May he rest in peace knowing he was loved and will always be remembered fondly in the hearts of those whose lives he touched.

A public viewing for Chico Lanier will be held on Friday, March 29, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The family will receive guests for the family visitation from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Matthew H. Lovett & Son's Funeral Home.

Funeral services to honor and remember the life of Chico Alou Lanier will be held at 11:00 AM at the Thomas Grove Baptist Church, East Olliff Street, Statesboro with Rev. Frankie Owens, officiating; Rev, Arthur Kelly, pastor.

Interment will follow at the Johnson Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Portal, GA.

Pallbearers will be announced later. 

A repast will be held in the Church Fellowship Hall of Thomas Grove Baptist Church following the committal services.

Matthew H. Lovett & Son's Funeral Home is in charge of final arrangements.
