Matthew H. Lovett & Son’s Funeral Home announces the passing of Mr. David “Duck” Smith, age 53, of Cordele, GA. Mr. Smith passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, in Cordele, after a brief illness.
David "Duck" Smith was born on April 26, 1971, in Statesboro, Georgia to the late Ray Smith and Lily Ruth Curry. He received his formal education in Bryan County school system. On Wednesday, November 20, 2024, David departed his earthly life at the Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele, GA after a brief illness.
Duck as he was affectionately called, loved the outdoors. He was also big on family, and he adored his children, nieces, and nephews. He was a fan of baseball, and his favorite team was the Atlanta Braves.
David is preceded in death by his father, the late Ray Smith, and his mother the late Lillie Ruth Curry. He is also preceded in death by his grandmothers Candaisy Curry and Rosemary Bostick, brothers David Smith and Ray Smith, Jr., a sister, Patricia Tunstall, and nephews Anthony Curry, Wayne Hines, and Tim Thomas.
He leaves his memories to be cherished by his two sons Jonathan Harris of Savannah, Georgia, and David Corley of Milledgeville, Georgia; his sisters, Justina Shuman of Savannah, Georgia, and Dianne Hines, of Statesboro, Georgia and Raciene (Jack) Thomas of Glenville, Georgia; a brother Antoine Young of Statesboro, Georgia, and a bonus brother Peter Foxworth of Pembroke, Georgia; his stepmom Izetta (Roosevelt) Palmer of Hagan, Georgia, his stepdad Charles Lee Young, of Statesboro, Georgia; three grandchildren and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Public viewing for Mr. David Smith will be held on Friday, November 29, 2024, from Noon to 6:00 PM at the funeral home.
Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Smith will be held at Noon, on Saturday, November 30, 2024, in the Ollie B. Holland Memorial Chapel at Matthew H. Lovett & Son's Funeral Home with Minister Gerald Lockhart, officiating.
Burial will follow at the Spring Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Peter Foxworth, Craig Williams, Gene Holly, Charlie L. Young, Jared Parker, and Vic Thompson
Matthew H. Lovett & Son's Funeral Home, LLC is in charge of final arrangements.
