Mr. Edward Jerome Thomas, a loving father, son and brother, passed away on August 16, 2024, at the Augusta Medical Center in Augusta, GA at the age of 54. Born on June 7, 1970, in Statesboro, GA, Edward was a lifelong resident of the area and received his education through the Bulloch County School system.
Edward was previously married to Tasha Perkins, with whom he had three children. He later married Marilyn Mincey, and to that union two children were born.
EJ, as he was known to friends and family, was a dedicated truck driver and entrepreneur. He had a successful career in the trucking industry. Over the years, he worked for various trucking companies before establishing his own venture, EJ Trucking, which he owned and operated for the last 10 years before his health began to decline. His passion for driving and commitment to his work were evident in the way he approached his career.
In his final moments, he was surrounded by love, with his brother Jeffrey by his side as he made his transition - a testament to the strong bonds he maintained with his family throughout his life.
Edward was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Ruth Thomas, his sister, Cassandra Enice Thomas, and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
EJ is survived by his spouse, Marilyn Mincey of Statesboro, GA; six children: his sons Courtney J. Thomas, Antwone J. Thomas, and Joshua Thomas, all of Register, GA; Johntavious E. Thomas of Statesboro, GA; his only daughter Hannah Alisha Thomas of Statesboro, GA; a god son he cherished as his own son Jamar DeVante Kirkland of Metter, GA; He is also survived by his father, Carl Edward Thomas, Jr., of Statesboro, GA; his brother, Jeffrey Omar (Inez) Thomas of Collins, GA. Additionally, he leaves behind a wide network of extended family members, including aunts Roxie Jean White of Statesboro, GA; Sandra Faye Mack of Screven, GA; Edna Ruth Cross of Statesboro, GA; Verdell (Paul) Clark of Maryland; Lavone (Johnny) Curry of Statesboro, GA; uncles Raleigh (Joyce) Cross of Statesboro, GA; Troy (Brenda) Cross of Statesboro, GA; Willie D. Mitchell of Sylvania, GA; Benny Ray (Jewel) Mitchell of Statesboro, GA; Robert Eugene (Colleen) Mitchell of Ludowici, GA; and Eddie Lee Mitchell of Screven, GA. He is further survived by his great aunts Maedell Ford of Jacksonville, FL; and Elizabeth Gay of Statesboro, GA; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Viewing and Visitation for Edward J. Thomas will take place on Friday, August 23, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Matthew H. Lovett & Son's Funeral Home, LLC.
Funeral services for Mr. Thomas will be held Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 11:00 AM in the Ollie B. Holland Memorial Chapel at Matthew H. Lovett & Son's Funeral Home with Brother Jason Brown who will be giving the Discourse. Interment will follow at Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
The family is requesting all family and friends to meet at the home of Mr. Edward Thomas at 9:45 AM on the day of the funeral service to proceed to the funeral home for the service.
His memory will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, as a reflection of a life dedicated to family and hard work. Edward's legacy as a devoted father, son, brother, and friend will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
