Joe Lewis Mack

Newington, GA

Mr. Joe Lewis Mack, age 80, of Newington passed away early Monday morning, October 23, 2023, at the Eagle Health & Rehabilitation Facility in Statesboro under the care of Affinis Hospice after an extended illness. Joe was born in Effingham County, July 7, 1943, to his parents, the late Fonzie and Lindy Young Mack. He was raised in Screven County and was a lifelong resident of Newington, GA.

Joe worked as a logger all his life. He loved the outdoors. He loved to fish, and being outside hanging out with "the guys," grilling and making a good pot of catfish stew. Joe also worked in the foster care field for over 20 years. He was a lifelong member of the Jordan Missionary Baptist Church in Sylvania, GA.

Mr. Mack is preceded in death by his parents, a son, the late Terry Mack, two brothers, the late Johnny Morrell and Fonzie Mack, Jr., four sisters, the late Louise McGee-Connelly, Willie Mae Howard, Elmyra Howard, Roberta Turner and a brother-in-law, the late Johnny Odom.

Joe's memories will be forever cherished by his loving wife, Mrs. Ona Mae Herron Mack of Newington, GA; three daughters, Veronica (Tony) Mack-Prescott of Newington, GA; Tekalie (Nathaniel) Mack-Robinson of Springfield, GA; and Adontae Mack of Sylvania, GA; two sons, Tony Lee (Glenda) Mack of Pooler, GA; and DeShawn Mack of Sylvania, GA; a special nephew who was like his son, Tony (Judy) Connely of Statesboro, GA; and Lamont Herron of Newington, GA; a special niece, Peggy Mae (Leroy) Clark of Oliver, GA; four sisters-in-law, Josie Mae Mack of Tampa, FL; Pearlie Mae (Paul) Washington of Sylvania, GA; Joann Herron, Marie (Willie) Lucas and Louetta (Herbert) Clark all of Newington, GA; and a brother-in-law, Isaiah Herron of Washington, D.C.; he is also survived by 21 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.

Public viewing for Joe Lewis Mack will be held Friday, October 27, 2023, from Noon until 6:00 PM. at the Matthew H. Lovett & Son’s Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Kingdom Living Empowerment Ministries, 193 Industrial Blvd, NewingtonGA 30446. Pastor Brock Taylor officiating, Elder Vicki Hall, presiding and Rev. Melanie Sheppard, pastor.

Interment will follow at Friendship Memorial Park, Sylvania, GA.
