Statesboro, Georgia
Willis Jerome Lewis passed away peacefully on July 17, 2026, just shy of his 74th birthday. Born in LaGrange, Georgia, Jerome went on to call Metter, Pembroke, and Statesboro home over the course of his vibrant and meaningful life.
A man of strong work ethic and skilled hands, Jerome worked many years in factory manufacturing and as a mechanic before ultimately retiring from construction work. No matter the trade, he took great pride in knowing how things worked and possessed a special talent for fixing whatever needed fixing.
Beyond his work, Jerome was an amazing father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and devoted friend. He was, without fail, the life of the party and happiest whenever he was surrounded by family and friends. Known for his legendary sense of humor, Willis loved to cook wildlife—frequently disguising his latest culinary creation just to trick unsuspecting loved ones into taking a bite. He possessed a true appreciation for the simple pleasures in life: enjoying his morning brew, savoring his favorite earthly herbs, and unwinding with a weekend spirit or two. His infectious laugh, playful spirit, and warm heart will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Jerome was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Pansy Mae Ellis,
He is survived by his beloved children: Amanda Mincey, Marshell ”Meka” Mincey, Willie “Anthony” Lewis, Marcella Jackson, Adrian (Meeya) Hill, Ebony Jackson, Wayne (Twyla) Jackson, Sharon Jackson-Banks, and Shelay (Gregory) Harris.
He was also survived in death by his siblings: Fredrick Ellis, Buford Eugene Ellis, Hildred (Roy) Truitt, and Jeanette Collins.
Additionally, a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren to whom he was known as “Papa.” Many nieces and nephews who called him “Uncle Ju.”
Jerome leaves behind a rich legacy of laughter, strength, and treasured memories that will be forever cherished by his surviving family members, grandchildren, extended relatives, and dear friends.
