Matthew Lawrence Houston Lovett is a lifelong resident of Statesboro, GA. He is a Licensed Funeral Director, Licensed Embalmer and a Licensed Insurance Agent (Life/Health and Property/Casualty) in Georgia and South Carolina. He is a 1998 graduate of Statesboro High School, a 2010 graduate of University of Phoenix earning a degree in Business Management/Finance, a 2012 graduate of Utah State University earning a degree in Religious Studies, a 2014 graduate of Ogeechee Technical College and has earned diplomas in many other areas such as Construction Management, Human Resources Management, Restaurant Management and Theology, just to name a few.

Matthew’s passion in Funeral Service began with the unexpected and sudden passing of his Aunt Joanna Holland Fields on June 7, 1987. It was then, at the tender age of 7 he recognized his calling in funeral service. In the spring of 1992, Matthew wrote a letter to Mr. James R. Barnes of James R. Barnes Mortuary explaining how he admired him as a mortician and how he wanted to be a Mortician just like him when he grew up. After receiving the letter, Mr. Barnes reached out to Matt’s mother, Ms. Kimberly Houston instructing her to, “tell Matt to come to see him for a job.” In short, Matt met with Mr. Barnes and began working for him that summer washing cars, cleaning the prep room, offices and working funerals. He also went on removals and helped with dressing the decedents.

Matthew has gained a plethora of experience to serve with Dignity, Integrity, and Compassion professionally and effectively. His experience stems from the following establishments:

  • Payton’s Mortuary, Statesboro, GA (Closed)
  • Pembroke Mortuary, Pembroke, GA (Closed)
  • The Former Michael & Brown Funeral Home, Savannah, GA
  • Craig R. Tremble Funeral Home, Statesboro, GA

He began his apprenticeship in funeral service while in mortuary school with Michael & Brown Funeral Home in Savannah, GA. He completed his apprenticeship with Craig R. Tremble Funeral Home in Statesboro, GA after graduation.

Humble and hardworking, he is a proud and successful entrepreneur.
